| Learning stuff about selling stuff |
[May. 13th, 2008|11:35 pm] |
A while ago, Roz and I got this couch and two chairs set, each piece of which folds up to quite compactness, for $50 (half off because we had a grocery store shopping card) from a grocery store. It served well for a while, then Roz found out that it was bad for her back, so she stopped using it.
Since we're moving now, we decided to sell the set so we wouldn't have to move it to the new place, cos we didn't really want it anymore. So I put it up on Craigslist.com. We figured that since it's used and not very good overall (in our eyes), we'd offer it for $15.
I've gotten at least five requests for it so far o.O It's selling almost faster than that box of string I offered on freecycle! Someone even offered $20 XD Turns out folding couches are rather sought-after. Should've asked more I guess XD Oh well.
On another note, we got an awesome futon thing on craigslist, and carried it home on foot! Fun times. |

| The Adventures of the House-sitters, Part 2 |
[May. 4th, 2008|03:32 pm] |
Nothing particularly remarkable happened Friday or Saturday. We still had trouble keeping the siblings separate, keeping them all from getting our food, and getting home in time for the dog. On Saturday we went to synagogue as usual, except getting a ride part-way with the leader guy. Got to see his pigeons! Other than that, the only exciting thing was that we actually got a few glimpses of the family's fourth cat! I just COULDN'T figure out where she was hiding... But then I think I did: She was jumping into one of the beds. There was a hole in the stuff on the bottom, and she was jumping up into it. Clever! So she wasn't actually a ghost.
Sunday was a bit more exciting.
Initially we were planning to stay home instead of going anywhere, though we were expected at the local SPCA to volunteer with the Animal Advocates for Agricultural Reform club we've been attending for a while, since gas was expensive and the drive was long. But then Roz discovered that she had some things to do at work, and it'd be generally convenient to go, so we went.
We went shopping, did some stuff at our apartment, went to Roz's work for a few hours, and even went to the SPCA. That was great. Apparently it was quite clean and nice, for that kind of place. Imagine walking into a small room and immediately being covered with friendly cats! Haha. It was great. So many cats. Roz and I were both like, "I want them all!" But we didn't take any.
Then we started on the drive back to the house. It was near sunset, so we expected it would probably be dark before we got there, but we thought nothing of it. So I was driving along calmly, when suddenly I saw a deer right in front of the car. I tried to swerve around, but it also tried to flee in the same direction! And there was impact.
We were completely unharmed, and the car seemed to work fine, but there was something not-red splattered on the windshield, and we had just hit a deer. So I pulled over and we got out to check.
Briefly, it was a doe, and completely dead, which was fortunate since we had no good way of putting it down if it were in its death throes. The front of the car was somewhat dented on one side, so that it was difficult to open the driver-side door and the tire scraped on something when it hit a bump, and we found out later that the headlight and turn signal were out. But that was the extent of the damage, fortunately.
More details about the deer: ( Only read if your stomach is strong )
So after we had pulled the deer off the road (luckily I had some gloves in my backpack), we started off again. It was much less pleasant and more creepy to drive to the house in the dark with only one headlight, especially because that area is FULL of zombies. Or at least zombie trees. AKA grapevines. But we made it somehow, and everything was alright from then on car-wise. We were pretty rattled though. So that was our exciting Sunday. |
